Gourmet dog biscuits-Natural dog biscuits made with meat will help your pet get all the protein it needs.

Gourmet dog biscuits with a little meat added help your pet obtain the protein it needs when eating the all-natural dog biscuits you make at home. Dogs are not strict meat eaters, but they have descended from omnivores, which means they eat both animal and vegetable materials. However, dogs do prefer animal-based protein although they can thrive on a vegetarian diet. Making gourmet dog biscuits with both animal and vegetable ingredients will make your dog want your natural dog biscuits rather than the store bought variety.
Making gourmet dog biscuits at home can be fun. Natural dog biscuits without added preservatives and chemicals will help maintain your pet's health and you will find making homemade dog cookies easy on your pocket book.

Gourmet dog biscuits with meat added that are made at home are particularly good for the older dog. Older dogs appear to require more protein to help maintain their protein reserves, so giving your older dog meat-filled natural dog biscuits is a great way to insure its nutritional needs are met.
Gourmet Dog Biscuits with Liver
- 2 cups flour
- 1 cup wheat germ (or cornmeal if you pet has wheat allergies)
- 3 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1 egg
- 1/2 cup chicken broth (use the broth left from cooking the chicken livers)
- 2 tablespoons parsley
- 1 cup cooked chicken livers, finely chopped
To make gourmet dog biscuits combine flour and wheat germ (or cornmeal). In a separate bowl, beat the egg with the oil. Add the chicken broth and parsley. Mix well. Add the dry ingredients (in small portions) to the liquid ingredients, stirring well after each addition. Fold in the chicken livers and thoroughly mix all ingredients. The dough will be firm for these all-natural dog cookies. Turn dough out on a lightly floured surface and knead for about a half a minute. Roll out to 1/2 inch thickness and cut into shapes or strips. Place dog cookies on a greased cookie sheet about 1 inch apart. Bake at 400˚Fin the center of the oven for about 15 minutes or until the dog cookies are firm. Store these natural dog biscuits in the refrigerator. Other recipes of interest:
