Cat grooming tips for people who wish to do their own  pet grooming.

Cat grooming tips

Cat care grooming #1 - Coat

Brush your cat’s fur daily to keep it shiny and mat and tangle free.  Good cat health care means starting this practice when your cat is a kitten so the cat get used to brushing.  Brushing is loved by most cats and helps the owner and cat form a unique friendship.

Cat care grooming #2 - Bathing

As a rule, cats don’t need frequent baths; however, regular shampooing and application of special treatments are needed for those who suffer allergic reactions to cats.  Seek a vet’s advice as to what type of shampoo to use on your cat that will help allergy sufferers in your home.

Cat care grooming #3 - Nails

Start nail cutting at a very young age, so the cat gets used to having it done.  Do one paw at a time in place of a long session.

Take a paw and press under the pad so the nail is revealed.  Just cut the tip.  Stay away from the pink vein (quick), which is easily seen through a cat's nail, as it is semi-transparent.

Use a good quality nail trimmer as well as having a supply of cauterizing powder available should you need to stop bleeding from cutting the nail too short and causing the quick to bleed.  Overly long nails in cat's can grow into pads or get caught on carpets causing the nail to be ripped out which is very painful for the animal.  Be extra careful with black nails as the quick cannot properly be seen.

Cat care grooming #4 - Teeth

Brush your cat's teeth at least once a week.  Use a special pet toothbrush and toothpaste.  Cat's can also acquire excessive plaque causing gum disease and other cat health dental problems.

Cat care grooming #5 - General

Good cat health care includes paying attention to your cat’s entire body.  This way you will notice peculiar conditions so that you can notify your vet before major issues occur.  Check the cat’s ears, eyes, mouth, skin, and anal/genital regions.  Notify your vet of any growths, rashes or swellings; excessive tearing or redness in eyes.  Look for infections caused by cat fights and take immediate action.

Regular cat grooming regimens require patience on the part of the cat owner.  However, regular grooming can only strengthen the ties between your and your cat, as the touching and attention your cat receives from you will add to cat health and your cat will be a contented pet friend.
