• Organize a celebration of your pet's life.  A memorial or death ceremony brings closure.  Give a eulogy of the pet's accomplishments, the pleasure it gave you or just about what the pet meant to you.

• Spend a night in vigil with lit candles and incense.  Surround yourself with pictures of your pet and just remember the warmth you derived from its life.

• Write a letter, a poem, any expression of your feelings.  Pour out your heart in words.  Scrapbook all your pet's pictures, putting your creative talents into memories.  Make a list of all the things your pet did to make you happy and place it in the scrapbook.

• Display the urn and surround it with flowers, candles, pictures or other remembrances of your pet.  A miniature shrine helps you to heal.

• Pet Memorial Day is the 2nd Sunday in September.  This season when all life starts to fade is a wonderful time to pay tribute to your pet on an annual basis.

• Do take time off work - your best friend has just passed on.
